Doing something truly innovative is scary.

It’s scary because it’s inherently risky. It might not work. It probably won’t work.

Doing something truly innovative is by definition contrarian, meaning that some people — maybe a lot of people — just won’t get it. They won’t agree with it, and they may walk out. They may shoot you down on Twitter. They may talk about how it’s going to fail.

That’s ok. It’s not for them.

If it’s instantly understood, and instantly praised by everyone, it’s a sign that what you’re doing may in fact not be so new and bold after all.

Speak to the ones who are still sitting at the end of the show. They are the ones who get it.
